- Actively form and/or participate in a Neighborhood Crime Watch Program and have active bi-monthly meetings; recruit and train neighborhood block captains.
- Diversify neighborhood leadership by involving neighborhood youth.

Standard Service Delivery
- Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) will pay for the installation of standard, non-decorative lighting that consists of a 150-watt fixture mounted at 25 ft. on a 30 ft. pole and connected to a six ft. over hanging bracket.
- Poles are spaced 150 ft. to 200 ft. apart.

What Neighborhoods Can Do:
- CDOT will consider lighting upgrades as appropriate. For lighting improvements, submit a petition or joint lighting request from a minimum of four residents of bordering properties. After approval, CDOT and Duke Power will collaborate on a street light plan for your area.
- The City's Neighborhood Matching Grant funds can be used to purchase and install decorative lighting. Call City/County Customer Service for general information at (704) 336-7600.

What Neighborhoods Can Do:
- Organize and develop an active Neighborhood Crime Watch program by introducing community members to the Police Response Team concept.
- Educate and encourage greater participation of residents through activity in neighborhood organizations and teams.
- Ensure neighborhood associations and residents understand the importance of reporting graffiti incidents on a timely basis and have access to public educational materials.
