Community University - 2010 Schedule

Each month during the Winter/Spring CU Series there will be a specific theme with supporting workshops addressing that theme. Residents are encouraged to participate in all classes for the month, but may attend individual workshops if preferred.  

February:  Effective Leadership

Leading with Style

Knowing how to lead is important in maintaining a strong association. Participants, especially those currently serving on boards or considering a board position, will examine various styles and methods of leadership and complete a leadership self-assessment.

All Aboard: Developing Strong Boards
2/18/10
Having a strong, committed board is fundamental for a thriving association. Participants, whether newly elected or continuing a multiple year term, will discuss basic roles and responsibilities of boards, ways to strengthen their board and complete a board assessment.

Project Management Made Easy

Completing projects strengthens associations and the communities in which we live. Participants will learn basic steps to make managing projects easier and review sample projects their associations can complete.

Growing Your Group

Developing greater participation from current and potential members enhances the overall success of an association. Participants will explore methods of teambuilding and increasing participation, including sample activities to share with their associations.

Keeping water sources clean is important for all of Charlotte. Participants will discuss steps they and their communities can take to preserve our water.

As a continued celebration of Earth Day 2010, participants will learn inexpensive, effective ways to "go green" in their communities and at home.

Résumé Writing and Job Applications

Participants will learn how to best reflect their skills and accomplishments to help secure full time or part time employment.

Participants will examine the application process for colleges and universities, including completing applications, researching available resources, and engaging admissions offices.

Summer Opportunities

Participants will gain a better understanding of available employment, community service, and volunteer opportunities for Summer 2010.
