Housing foreclosures is a major issue nationally and locally.  Between 2000 and 2007, the number of foreclosure filings in Charlotte-Mecklenburg increased 244 percent, from 2,311 to 7,943 filings.  An estimated 50 percent of local foreclosure filings have resulted in the loss of a home.
