Charlotte's overall score with the Keep Charlotte Beautiful Litter Index improved for 2008. This year's score is 1.63, compared to 1.85 in 2007. Read the media release. South Tryon Community Partnership Hosts Community Spirit Jam on May 31
South Tryon Community Partnership will host Community Spirit Jam on May 31, from noon until 4 pm, at the Southside Park, located at 2645 Toomey Avenue. Public Hearing to be held on June 9 for FY2009 Annual Action Plan
The public hearing for the FY2009 Annual Action Plan will be held on Monday, June 9 at 7 pm in the City Council Chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. 4th Street. The Annual Action Plan prioritizes funding needs for five federal programs and links housing-related programs with other community development goals that address economic, physical, and human development needs in Charlotte. Housing Charlotte Implementation Committee Hosts 2nd Mini-Forum
The Housing Charlotte Implementation Committee will host its second mini-forum on Wednesday, May 21 from 6-7:30 pm in Room CH14 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. City Launches Foreclosure Resource Center Web Site A web site containing foreclosures resources and referrals is available for individuals and families facing foreclosure in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. The site will be updated as additional resources become available. The growing number of housing foreclosures is a major issue nationally and locally. Between 2000 and 2007, the number of foreclosure filings in Charlotte-Mecklenburg increased 244 percent, from 2,311 to 7,943 filings. It is estimated that approximately 50 percent of all local foreclosure filings have resulted in the loss of a home. [Posted - May 2, 2008]
Attend Neighborhood Matching Grant Pre-Application Workshop
Your neighborhood may be eligible to receive funding through the City's Neighborhood Matching Grants Program. Grants up to $25,000 are awarded to eligible neighborhoods organizations and business associations for certain projects. The next application deadline is Monday, June 16, 2008. To apply, a representative from the organization must attend a pre-application workshop. [Posted - March 25, 2008]
Neighborhood Development is celebrating a banner year with its HouseCharlotte program, which helps moderate to low-income Charlotteans become homeowners. From July 1 to December 31, 2007, 289 HouseCharlotte loans have been approved. Of those loans, 189 were families at or below 80% of median income ($51,520), 11 were to families at or below 60% ($38,640), and five were to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers through the Police Officer Home Purchase Incentive Program. The houses were purchased in 43 of the 87 target neighborhoods.
