The MeckCARES Mover

January 2010

January's Key Message:

MeckCARES Announcement

Due to current economic conditions in our community, the MeckCARES Leadership Team has determined that we will NOT host an SOC Awards event this Spring.

Instead, we are planning to host a community-wide celebration to mark the overall successes of our System of Care next year. Please stay tuned for more details...

Dear MeckCARES Community:

Happy 2010! In an effort to go green and to distribute timely information, the MeckCARES Social Marketing team will begin to email out more periodic e-newsletters. We hope this will be a more convenient way for us all to share important information, news and announcements.

Please help us build our contact list by forwarding this message on to anyone you believe has an interest in youth and families in Mecklenburg County. And of course, let us know your feedback and any ideas you have about how to make this communication tool the best it can be. Many thanks!

Dr. Jim Cook Receives Honor

In case you haven't heard, MeckCARES' Lead Evaluator, Dr. Jim Cook, has been recognized with the 2009 NC Board of Governor's Award for Excellence in Public Service. We certainly know firsthand all about his dedication to youth and families in Mecklenburg County.

Congratulations, Jim!  Read more about it here...

Training Institute Looking for a Few Good Parents!

In 2010, we need your help. The MeckCARES Training Institute offers educational, enriching and supportive courses not just for mental health professionals and community partners, but also for parents, caregivers advocates and the general public. Attendees will learn all about the following:

  • network of informal supports
  • peer supports
  • key contacts
  • services
  • navigating the system
  • and much more!

Let's all continue to support parents and caregivers this year by encouraging them to take the Beginner Series, starting with CFT 101. What a great way to persistently empower families with knowledge and confidence in 2010!

Classes are free and it is easy to register...
