Public Service:
Prior to becoming Mayor of Charlotte in 1899, McCall had not previously held any public office.

Personal:
McCall was a lawyer who lived in Charlotte's Fourth Ward.

During his Administration:

• Charlotte Pipe and Foundry opened in 1900.
• J.B. Ivey Company opened for business at North Tryon and Sixth streets. (The Ivey building today has been converted into residential condominiums.)
• Charlotte saw its first automobiles in November, 1900. These early auto were called "locomobiles" because they ran with steam engines.
