November 16-20, 2009 is

International Education Week

This week serves as an opportunity to celebrate international education and exchanges worldwide. Click here to read Mayor Patrick McCrory's Proclamation on International Education Week in Charlotte. This is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of our efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for our global society and to attract future learders from abroad to come to study in the United States.

As the face of Charlotte changes so do the organizations representing our city's diverse population. The Mayor's International Cabinet (MIC) and Charlotte Sister Cites recently merged to form the Charlotte International Cabinet (CIC).  By combining the resources of the MIC and CSC, the Charlotte International Cabinet can more effectively provide for the growing needs of our community in areas such as business, immigration, education and cultural enrichment.

The CIC brings synergy to the economic development process. The exchange programs established by CSC joined with the business relationships shaped by the MIC can bring new opportunities for investment. The CIC will accentuate Charlotte's business, cultural, and educational exchanges.

The CIC also helps the international community by providing a forum through which they can integrate and communicate easily with elected and civic officials. The new amalgamation also gives City leaders comprehensive advice on how to foster international awareness in schools by giving students at all levels of education, primary through post graduate, a globally competitive edge.

The Charlotte International Cabinet is a Resource for multiple information requests from local government and the community; a Focus of local international activities; a Consultant to elected officials and city staff; and a Reflection of our community's changing face.

We will continue to formally guide the city's direction into the 21st Century as an international city.  The Cabinet meets six times a year and serves as an open forum to discuss any international issues the city is facing and to update members on all ongoing Cabinet activities. The mayor presides over these meetings, which are open to the public.  Interested members of the community are encouraged to attend.

The Charlotte International Cabinet is the Charlotte Region's leading resource for promoting international business and international communities.
