In 1998, Mayor Pat McCrory initiated an award called the Mayor's International Community Award.  Each year, an award luncheon is held to recognize the philanthropic giving and other forms of support that many of Mecklenburg County's foreign-owned firms have given to non-profit organizations in the Charlotte area. Check out what foreign firms are in our region in the "Charlotte International Review" published by the Charlotte Chamber.

Eligibility for Award

• Foreign-owned companies (51% or greater ownership by a non-US entity) located in Mecklenburg County.
• An award will be given in each of three categories: large firms (more than 500 local employees); medium size firms (150-500 employees); and small firms (less than 150 local employees)

Selection Process

A Selection Committee will choose one award recipient from each of the three firm size categories on the basis of the following criteria:

• Community Impact, as measured by success and recognition of community service programs.
• Executive leadership and commitment, as measured by extent and depth of corporate participation and corporate leadership of employee involvement.  
• Corporate mission statement and values, as represented by the comprehensiveness of employee program incentives and internal corporate awareness.
• Employee participation and involvement, as represented by the extent of employee participation.

Nomination procedures

Nominations will be accepted from any organization or individual that has first-hand experience of a corporation's contributions to the Charlotte community.  Companies may also nominate themselves.  Nominations may be submitted online or sent to the Mayor's International Cabinet via fax or mail:
