City and County Receive Justice Assistance Grant

The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County have received a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) from the U.S. Department of Justice.   The grant funds are to be used by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office for improvements to local law enforcement including equipment, technology, and overtime pay for officers.

This year, the City and County are receiving a total of $325,638.  CMPD will receive $235,659 and the Sheriff's Office will receive $89,979.  For the next 30 days, citizens are invited to share their ideas on how these funds should be spent.  Comments on the city share of the funds should be directed to Darrellyn Kiser at dkiser@cmpd.org.  Comments on the county share of the funds should be directed to Julia Rush at Julia.Rush@mecklenburgcountync.gov.
