Application Process

Resumes are accepted in person Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or may be mailed to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office Training/Recruiting Division, 5235 Spector Drive Charlotte, NC 28269. Or call 704-336-7248 or 1-800-400-8500.

Only those meeting minimum requirements will be issued an application package

Once the application is completed, all applicants will be required to successfully complete the following steps in order to be considered for hire:

    1. Applicant orientation/physical assessment
    2. Criminal/Driving history check
    3. Online personal history questionnaire
    4. Initial interview
    5. In-depth background investigation
    6. Polygraph examination  
    7. Medical examination
    8. Drug test (urine)

The application process usually takes from four to six weeks after orientation.

Copies of the following documents will be required:

    1. Criminal records check(s) (felony and misdemeanor) from each county of residency since the age of 18.
    2. DMV record from each state a driver's license was held.
    3. Current credit report.
    4. Birth certificate.
    5. Driver's license.
    6. High school diploma or transcript.
    7. Marriage certificate (If applicable).
    8. Divorce decree(s) (If applicable).
    9. DD-214 copy 4 (If applicable).
    10. Current Photo (color passport size preferred).
