The Sheriff of Mecklenburg County is required to enforce and carry out orders of the court that are directed to him per North Carolina General Statute. A civil judgement is a post-judgment remedy; it is a judicial order issued by the court which has rendered the judgment. An order or writ from the court is directed to a particular officer/sheriff and requires the seizure and/or sale of sufficient property owned by the judgment debtor, to pay in full or satisfy the judgment of the court. The purpose of a civil judgement is to enforce and carry out the judgment of the court. The remedy of a civil judgement is the power of the court protecting the rights of the parties and requiring the officer/sheriff to perform certain duties as prescribed by law. A civil judgement is the only method for obtaining payment of a money judgment.
