Q.  Where do I go to pay a ticket?
A.   Traffic tickets are paid at the Clerk of Superior Court Office, 832 East Fourth Street at the cashier's window.  You may also obtain a receipt there for prior paid traffic tickets.  For more information, call 704-686-0450.   

If you have questions concerning a traffic ticket, you may email the Clerk of Superior Court at MeckTrafficTickets@yahoo.com  (response to your inquiry is within 24 hours).
 

Q.  I received a traffic citation.  Where do I go for my first court appearance?
A.  Room 1130 of the Criminal Courts Building, 832 E. 4th Street.


Q.  Where do I go to take out a warrant on someone?

A.   Magistrate's Office, 801 E. 4th Street,  located at Jail Central.


Q.  Where can I get fingerprints done for employment?
A.   Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, 715 E. 4th Street, (Gun Permits Division).


Q.  Who do I talk to about a bond?  Where do I go to bail someone out of jail?
A.   For bond amount, contact Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office at 704-336-8100.  Request for bond reductions are conducted during scheduled bond hearing in the District or Superior Courts by the offender's attorney.

To bail someone out of jail, report to Jail Central at 801 E. 4th Street.


Q.  Where do I report on my court date?
A.   If you are a Court Services (CTSV)-Pretrial Release client, report directly to the courtroom as indicated on your court reminder letter.  Immediately after court, report to the CTSV office.

 For civil and criminal cases, report to the  Courts Building, 832 East Fourth Street


Q.  What is deferred prosecution?

A.   A program for first-time offenders on certain misdemeanors and some felony charges.  The program is managed by Community Corrections (Probation/Parole), and requires an admission of guilt before a judge, payment of any restitution to the victim of crimes against person/property, court fees and any fines imposed during a deferred period.  Upon successful completion, charges are dismissed by the District Attorney's Office.  For more information on this program, call 704-342-6837.


Q.  How do I apply for deferred prosecution?
A.   You must attend an eligibility conference held every Monday-Thursday at the Community Corrections conference room, 700 E. Trade Street, basement, held at 9:15 a.m.  NOTE:  You do not need an appointment, but you must be on time and bring all warrant information with you.


Q.  Who do I call in regards to the Guardian Ad Litem program?
A.   Vanessa Colston, District Administrator at 704-347-7843.


Q.  Can my court date be changed to an earlier or later time?

A.   If you are represented by an attorney, your attorney can have a court date changed prior to the current court date.


Q.  Where can I get a name change?
A.   Clerk of Superior Court, Courts Building, 832 East Fourth Street.


Q.  Where can I get a copy of my marriage license?
A.   Register of Deeds Office, 720 E. 4th Street, 1st Floor.


Q.  My job requires a criminal history/background record.  Where do I get that?
A.   The most complete record (including disposition) can be obtained from the Clerk of Superior Court, 832 East Fourth Street.  Currently there is a $15.00 processing fee. 


Q.  Where can expungements be done?
A.   A request (petition) must be filed with the Clerk of Superior Court (for any Mecklenburg County charge), 832 East Fourth Street.  This is usually filed by your private attorney.


Q.  Who do I call to get a judgment off my record?
A.   Contact your attorney. 


Q.  Where do I go to drop charges against someone?  Can this be done over the telephone?
A.   Charges can only be dropped upon recommendation of the District Attorney.  The District Attorney Office is located at 700 E. Trade Street.  This cannot be done over the telephone. 


Q.  Where do I get either a filed or non-filed police report?
A.   Certified copies of police reports are obtained from the police agency with which you filed the report.  If filed at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department the address is 601 E. Trade Street, 704-336-2848.


Q.  My license was revoked.  How do I go about getting it back?  Are cash and personal checks accepted?

A.  If a Mecklenburg County license, contact the Clerk of Superior Court, 832 East Fourth Street.  Cash, money orders and certified cashier's checks are accepted. You may also go to the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Cash and check are accepted there.  If your license was revoked for another county in North Carolina, contact the Department of Motor Vehicles for that county and have your citation number or contact that county's Clerk of Court office.


Q.  I was given a speeding ticket and told to enroll in the Driver's School.  What is the number to call?
A.  Call the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina at 704-644-4201


Q.  Can you tell me if there are any warrants out for me?
A.   To obtain information on outstanding warrants, contact Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, Warrant Repository at 704-336-6138.


Q.  Where can I get a limited driver's permit?
A.   Contact an attorney or the Clerk of Superior Court.  These permits are issued by the District/Superior Court judges.


Q.  Where do I fill out or obtain forms for a public records request?
A.   It depends on the agency from which you are requesting the records.  Each agency should have a mechanism in place to provide public records information, if allowed by statute.


Q.  Where do I go to find judgements from Small Claims/Magistrate Court?
A.  Civil Courts department located in the Courts Building, 832E. 4th Street, Room 3725.  For more information, call 704-686-0520.  For information regarding filing/processing small claims, call 704-686-0560.


Q.  How do I change my address for an order which requires me to pay child support
?
A.  Civil Courts department located in the Courts Building, 832 E. 4th Street, Room 3725.  For more information, call 704-686-0520.


Q.  Where do I go to find information/listings regarding divorces and separations?  How do I get a copy of my divorce decree?
A.  Civil Courts department located in the Courts Building, 832 E. 4th Street, Room 3725.  For more information, call 704-686-0520.  For a copy of a divorce decree, call 704-686-0560.


Q.  I missed my court date.  What do I do?
A.  If you are a Court Services – Pretrial Release client, report to your case manager at CTSV Administrative Office, 801 E. 4th Street or call your case manager at 704-336-2027.  Otherwise, and if you do not have an attorney, report to the Clerk of Superior Court, Criminal Division, 832 East Fourth Street to request a new court date.


Q.  Where can worthless check warrant forms be obtained?  Where are worthless checks processed?
A.   Mecklenburg County Warrant Issuing Magistrates Office, 801 E. 4th Street, Jail Central.  For more information, contact the Magistrates Office at 704-347-7844.


Q.  Where do I go to begin the process of suing someone?
A.   Magistrates Office, 801 E. 4th Street. 

 

Q.  I have lost my jury summons.  How do I get a new copy?
A.  Call 704-686-0195.


Q.  Where do I go to report for jury duty?  Where can I park?

Q.  Where is the law library
?
