We strive to provide our Explorers with the skills they will need through hands-on experience and classroom instruction. Subject areas include handcuffing techniques, traffic control, physical fitness, defensive tactics, building searches, and many more. Over the years our Explorers have had first hand observation and exposure to the detention (jail) environment, radio communications, and the Direct Action Response Team (DART) a unit responsible for extracting uncooperative inmates from a jail cell.
When not attending regular bi-weekly meetings, the post is involved in many community service projects. Explorers have assisted the Charlotte Checkers Hockey team with various special projects, and have fingerprinted thousands of the county's youth through our Child Identification Program. Each Christmas our Explorers embark on one of our most rewarding projects, "OPERATION EXPLORER CLAUS!" The Explorer post delivers toys to the surrounding hospital pediatric wards and children's homes for children unable to be home for the holiday. The smiles of gratitude and joy are all the reward any Explorer could ever wish for.
If you are a young adult, 14 to 20 years of age, and are interested in public safety as a career, please contact us at 704-336-2232. Please see the schedule of upcoming events to see what our post is participating or planning next.
Meeting times are 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. and may vary depending on meeting content. Meeting location is Mecklenburg County Jail Training Academy 5235 Spector Drive, Charlotte.
