If you have general questions concerning a property's jurisdiction or development plans, please call us at 704-336-3720. To assist in this research, please have the property's address and/or parcel number.

What part of Mecklenburg County has the City of Charlotte annexed?
The City of Charlotte and each of the towns in Mecklenburg County have land development authorities that extend outside their city limits.  This is called their extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ).

Am I in a flood zone?
Look online or contact Storm Water Services at (704) 336-3728.

What is impervious area?
Impervious area is any hard surface covering the ground.  This includes building roofs, paved parking lots, and sidewalks.  Gravel is considered impervious under the watershed regulations, but not under the storm water detention regulations.

Do I need a driveway permit to extend an existing drive at my resident?
Driveway permits are required on commercial projects and subdivisions.  Individual residential driveways do not typically need a permit.
