"Soil & Water... Yours for Life"
Conservation -- the wise use and management of natural resources (soil, water, air, plants, animals) to fulfill human needs now and in the future. Soil Conservation -- to protect soil from erosion, to keep it productive and out of waterways: to use and manage soil wisely now to ensure a rich soil resource for future generations. Water Conservation -- to protect water quality by keeping water clean from sediment, chemicals, oil and animal wastes; to protect water quantity by using smaller amounts of harmful elements; to use and manage water wisely now to ensure good water quality for future generations.
POSTER CONTEST Poster Theme: "Soil & Water...Yours for Life" Poster Deadline: March 13, 2009 at 5:00 PM Poster Eligibility: Grade Levels 3, 4, 5, 6 Poster Guidelines: - Bear the title of the poster contest - Original work of the student - Clearly address the theme - Colorful art with a brief catchy message - Present on poster size - Submit flat - Do not roll - Identify by using standard form (print clearly) Judging Criteria: - Conservation Message - 50% - Visual Effectiveness - 30% - Universal Appeal - 10% - Originality - 10%
POINTERS Use colorful art with brief catchy messages, plain large letters (1 inch), a large bottom and equal on the other three sides.

ESSAY CONTEST Essay Theme: "Soil & Water...Yours for Life" Poster Deadline: March 13, 2009 at 5:00 PM Essay Eligibility: Grade Level 6 only Essay Guidelines: - Bear the title of the essay contest - Original work of the student - Type or print - Limit to 300 - 500 words - Present on standard paper 8 1/2 X 11 - Submit in a portfolio - Identify by using standard form Judging Criteria: - Content - 50% - Writing Style - 20% - Organization -20% - Neatness - 10%
POINTERS Essay- a short composition dealing with a single subject from a personal point of view; facts may be interwoven into the essay, which stimulates thinking. Report- a formal presentation of facts in a report style.
