INVASIVE SPECIES TASK FORCE

Invasive Exotic Pests

An Invasive Exotic Pests is a species found outside of its native range that threatens biodiversity.  The threat arises because these organisms are free from natural controls.  As a result invasive populations grow exponentially and often out-compete native species for resources.  Invasive Species come from all around the world; in some cases, by accident, in other cases, they are introduced purposely because of their horticultural attributes.  Not only the Invasive plants are a threat to the native species, Invasive species can cause- many problems to our ecosystem, agriculture, economics, habitats, recreation and human health.

Invasive Species Task Force

The Invasive Species Task Force (ISTF) is an advisory group to the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District comprised of plant professionals from state and local governments, local universities, the nursery industry and the general public.  ISTF serve to educate the public of the issue of invasive exotic plants and the need to management.

What you can do

  • Educate yourself about Invasive species and inform others about Invasive plants
