Residential Waste Reduction and Recycling

Landfils are expensive for Mecklenburg taxpayers to own and operate.
Mecklenburg County began recycling in 1977. We have a widespread and effective residential recycling program that includes curbside recycling in all municipalities and a network of eight drop centers.
Recycling alone isn't enough. Mecklenburg County encourages residents to practice both recycling and waste reduction to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills .
