Overview:
The idea was to get the students thinking about their role in taking care of "our" earth. By talking about the 3R's (recycling-reusing and reducing waste). The students were given a breif history of "Earth Day". Coupons were given when any one of the 3R's were mentioned.
Description & Implementation:
Project Description
We used three age appropriate activity books, that dealt with the 3R's and we then crafted and designed our paper bags with Earth Day slogans. These bags were then given (by the students) to someone else to use again. Which allows the bag to be reused at least three times.
Project Implementation
I visited each school during their ASEP. I worked with the younger students first (K-1) then the other students (grades 2-3 and 4-5. Each presentation reflected the age level interest.
Bain Elem. was visited twice because of the student body size. Each visit was about 2 1/2 hrs.
Recommendations & Follow-up:
We do this project each year starting in mid-March. More schools may be added. This is our 5th year.
