2005 NEC Adopted as North Carolina Electrical Code

The North Carolina Building Code Council has adopted the 2005 NEC as the North Carolina Electrical Code.

The effective date of the 2005 North Carolina Electrical Code (NEC) is as follows (revised February 15, 2005):
- All projects that are in plan review by February 15, 2005 and projects that have completed a Formal Preliminary Plan Review by February 15, 2005 are not required to use the 2005 NEC if they receive a permit by August 1, 2005. (A Formal Preliminary Plan Review is a meeting with documented meeting notes by the A/E that Code Enforcement has on file).
- All other projects with permits issued after February 28, 2005 shall meet the requirement of the 2005 NEC.
There will be two (2) amendments to the NEC, they are as follows:
- AMENDMENT 210.8(A)(3) Exception No. 2
(3) Outdoors Exception No. 2 to (3): A single outlet receptacle supplied by dedicated branch circuit which is located and identified for specific use by a sewage lift pump.
- AMENDMENT 250.50
250.50 Grounding Electrode System. If available on premises at each building or structure served, each item in 250.52(A)(1) through (A)(6) shall be bonded together to form the grounding electrode system. Where none of these electrodes are available, one or more of the electrodes specified in 250.52(A)(4) through (A)(7) shall be installed and used.
