Best Workplaces For Commuters

Mecklenburg County, is a "Best Workplaces For Commuters"

Mecklenburg County Government has taken the lead locally in a national program to reduce emissions from motor vehicles. The County signed an agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and has been designated by the EPA as one of the "Best Workplaces for Commuters" (BWC).

"Best Workplaces for Commuters" is an innovative, voluntary business-government program that distinguishes and provides national recognition to employers offering outstanding commuter benefits such as free or low cost bus passes, strong telework programs, carpooling matching and vanpool subsidies to reduce the number of employees that drive to work in single occupancy vehicles.

Mecklenburg
County"s BWC program
contributes at least half of the cost of a transit pass for employees and also provides an emergency ride home for participating employees.

By taking advantage of one or more of the BWC alternatives, employers and employees can save time, money, and energy... three things that  can be better spent than sitting in traffic.

Some of the BWC benefits to employers include:
·        Attracting and retaining employees
·        Solving parking problems and costs
·        Realizing tax benefits and cost savings
·        Reducing environmental impacts, and
·        Receiving public recognition

Other area organizations that have joined the BWC program include the Charlotte Area Transit System, Centralina Council of Governments, and the Charlotte Chamber.
