  myHR Security

The security of your personnel information is important. Mecklenburg County IST uses encryption technology such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to ensure that information transmitted to the MyHR site remains confidential. This is the same encryption technology used by many online services and stores.

SSL technology encrypts all information passed between your computer and the MyHR site, whether you are accessing MyHR from home or from work. Encryption scrambles the information as it is transmitted, which keeps your information secure.

We recommend that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x and above.  If you are utilizing a firewall, you may have to adjust it in order for this site to function correctly.  Subscribers to AOL may have a problem accessing MyHR due to AOL's security features.  A possible solution would be to obtain the internet connection then shift from the AOL user interface to using the stand-alone Internet Explorer browser.  Adjustments can be made to the security features of Internet Explorer which should allow MyHR to function properly.  For detailed instructions on adjusting browser security, click here.

You can take some additional steps to improve your online security.

  • Don't reveal your passwords to anyone.
  • If using a public computer, always log out when you are finished using MyHR, and close ALL your browser windows.
  • Password must be at least 6 characters in length, and must include one number. Choose a combination of letters, numbers and symbols.
  • Don't use personal information—such as your name or family members' names—or dictionary words.
  • More tips for passwords can be found at the IST Information Security Group Intranet Website.
  • When using the "Forgot My Password" feature, make sure that all browser windows are closed before using the new password contained in your E-Mail.
  • If you use a pop-up blocker, make sure that pop-ups are allowed on all sites starting with http://www.charmeck.org, http://meckweb and http://myhr.
