Sick leave accrues weekly and may be taken in increments in accordance with KBU policy. Employees on short-term disability, not receiving a paycheck, or receiving at less than 5 hours salary will not accrue leave.
- Full-time employees accrue 12 days per year (96 hrs)
- Part-time employees accrue leave as follows:
- 20 < 30 Hrs per week = 6 days per year (48 hrs)
- 30 < 40 Hrs per week = 9 days per year (72 hrs)
There is no limit on the amount of sick leave which can be accumulated during employment.
Shared Sick Leave
Regular full-time and part-time employees are eligible to voluntarily contribute a day of sick leave on an annual basis to a sick leave bank. Once all accrued sick and vacation leave and short term disability benefits have been exhausted, contributing employees may request leave from the bank for a personal catastrophic illness or for the catastrophic illness of an immediate family member that requires the employee to take time away from work.
Employees may receive up to 45 days of sick leave per request from the sick leave bank. New hires are eligible to join the shared sick leave program within 30 days of hire. Otherwise, employees may join the sick leave bank during an enrollment period. Sick leave that is donated to the bank is not refundable. Only employees who contribute during a given enrollment period are eligible to be considered for using leave from the bank. A review committee will review and approve all leave requests.
