Rama Road Elementary School Garden
|
The Rama Road Elementary School’s garden was built in April 2009 and two crops (summer and fall) have been successfully planted and harvested. The garden was funded in part by the Mecklenburg County Fruit & Vegetable Coalition.
Students of the After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) and teachers have been the main cultivators of the garden.
On September 28, 2009, the ASEP students went on a field trip to Frank Patterson Farms in China Grove, NC. The students were introduced to Farmer Greg who taught them about planting tomatoes. The students enjoyed being at the farm and especially liked getting tomatoes and pumpkins to take home! These experiences have helped students learn more about gardening and farming while eating healthy fruits and vegetables.
