HEALTH DEPARTMENT: SPECIAL SHOT CLINIC HELPS KIDS COMPLY WITH CMS/STATE REQUIREMENTS
September 23, 2008

Charlotte, NC – This Friday, September 26, the Mecklenburg County Health Department will hold a special immunization clinic aimed at getting Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools sixth-graders up-to-date with their required childhood immunizations.

Tdap Special Walk-In Clinic, Mecklenburg County Health Dept.
249 Billingsley Road                   1:30 p.m.-4 p.m.

Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, state immunization requirements have changed to include a booster shot called Tdap. This shot provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (also known as whooping cough). It is now mandatory for any student currently in sixth grade who has not had a booster containing tetanus in the last 5 years.

It’s important to know that children can be excluded from school without documented proof that they have been properly immunized.

Tdap is given free. Parents are asked to bring their children’s current shot records. If this special clinic is not convenient, parents can always call our appointment line at 704-336-6500.

The Health Department has been working closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to ensure that as many students as possible comply with the new requirements. Literally, hundreds of children have been immunized during the past month during the Big Shot Saturday clinics.
