Charlotte, NC – The Mecklenburg County Health Department is now taking appointments for residents to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza.
The shot is being offered at both health department locations, 249 Billingsley Road and 2845 Beatties Ford Road. Appointments can be made by calling (704)-336-6500.
"The single, most effective way to protect oneself from the flu is to get vaccinated each fall," says Dr. Stephen Keener, medical director for the health department. "You'll not only protect yourself, but your loved ones, co-workers and community, as well."
In addition to appointments on Sunday, Nov. 9, the health department will hold walk-in flu shot clinics as part of a countywide effort known as Senior Vaccination Sunday.
Previously, this day has been geared toward seniors, a most vulnerable population during the flu season. This year, all ages are encouraged to come and get a flu shot.
On this day, the health department will partner with Carolinas Healthcare Systems and Presbyterian Healthcare Urgent Care to reach as many Mecklenburg County residents as possible.

Cost for the flu vaccine is $25 and can be paid by cash, check or charge. Medicaid and Medicare B are also accepted and residents are reminded to bring their insurance card.
Children 6 months to 59 months and pregnant women will receive the flu shot free of charge.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the flu vaccine is expected to be in abundant supply this season, and the health department encourages all residents to protect themselves. Many drug and grocery stores, urgent care locations, and private physicians are offering flu shots, with a wide variety of times and locations from which to choose.
