HEALTH DEPARTMENT LOOKS FOR "SUPER MOMS" TO LAUNCH NEW NUTRITION PROGRAM

January 30, 2007

SuperMom

Charlotte, NC – More than anyone else, Moms influence what the family eats. She prepares the meals, does the shopping, watches the food budget, and prepares and monitors what family members consume. So who could be better than Mom to trumpet the beginnings of a new program to promote increased intake of fruits and vegetables.

Fruits & Veggies- More Matters TM will replace the old "5 A Day" program, which is being phased out over the next two years. The Mecklenburg County Health Department is looking for "Super Moms" to lead the local launch of the new program.

The contest is seeking local moms who are passionate about eating fruits and vegetables and making sure their families do the same. These Moms will serve as role models for "Fruits and Veggies- More MattersTM" and be a part of the program’s kick-off on March 19. The Health Department is searching for SuperMoms of all cultural and economic backgrounds.

The 5 A Day Coalition of Mecklenburg County and the Mecklenburg County Health Department are sponsoring this SuperMom contest, which runs through February 12. Moms will be offered the opportunity to spread on the word on why it is important to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

To nominate your SuperMom, call B.J. Ratcliffe at the Mecklenburg County Health Department at 704-336-6029. Download the entry form and instructions on how to enter.
