HEALTH DEPARTMENT HOSTS "LAST CHANCE" FLU CLINIC THIS SATURDAY
January 17, 2007

Charlotte, NC – The Mecklenburg County Health Department is hosting an "It’s Not Too Late to Vaccinate" flu shot clinic. The Health Department hopes to reach those residents who have yet to protect themselves from a bout with seasonal influenza.

- Saturday, January 20
- 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
- Mecklenburg County Health Department
- 249 Billingsley Road, Charlotte

There is a $25 charge for the shot which can be paid by cash, check, or charge. Medicaid and Medicare "B" will also be accepted. Many children between the ages of 6 months and 18 years of age are qualified to get the vaccine "free of charge".

Although flu season generally lasts from November to April, most cases occur between December and March. With the vaccine needing between two to six weeks to become effective, a flu shot now can still give protection for a good portion of the remaining flu season.

In contrast to previous years, the influenza vaccine this season is plentiful and the Health Department strongly recommends a flu shot for anyone who has not been vaccinated.

Those people at high risk for complications from the flu-including pregnant women, children under 5 and people aged 50 and older-are strongly advised to receive the vaccine. Also, those in close contact with any of these high risk individuals are also encouraged get the shot.

If these Saturday hours are not convenient, residents can still get a flu shot by calling our appointment line at 704-336-6500. To find out more information about protecting you and your family from seasonal influenza, visit www.meckhealth.org.
