Charlotte, NC – The Mecklenburg County Health Department and the Fit City Challenge are introducing a new tool for employers to help create a healthier work environment. It's the Fit City Challenge Worksite Wellness Web site: www.fitcitychallenge.org/worksite.
As health costs continue to soar, businesses are looking for new ways to educate employees about the benefits of living a fit and healthy lifestyle. The Fit City Challenge Worksite Wellness Web site has valuable tools to assist business owners, human resource administrators or employee advocates in creating a healthier work environment.
Julie Jackman is the Fit City Worksite Wellness program coordinator. She has lived in Charlotte for almost a decade and has a passion for eating well and staying active. Julie spent many years working both in the corporate world and the fitness industry and experienced first hand how the environment can impact a person's overall health.
"Whether it's the lack of healthy options in vending machines or little physical activity during the workday, small influences can hinder anyone's effort to live a healthy lifestyle," says Jackman. Any business looking for more information on worksite wellness can check the new Web site or call Jackman at 704-432-4526.
Fit City Challenge Worksite Wellness has many great ideas including:
- A list of healthy snack items for company vending machines.
- Creative ways to incorporate physical activity into the workday, even if employees are stuck at their desks.
- A complete self-assessment to determine how healthful the worksite really is and resources to help make improvements.
The Fit City Worksite Wellness Program is a Fit Community grantee. Fit Community is a statewide program designed to recognize and reward North Carolina communities and counties for actively promoting healthy lifestyles. Fit Community is part of Fit Together, the overweight/obesity campaign of the North Carolina Health and Wellness Trust and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
