Charlotte, NC – The Mecklenburg County Health Department's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program is relocating to a brand new facility in east Charlotte.
WIC will leave CMC-Northpark at 251 Eastway Drive and the main Health Department at 249 Billingsley Road. The two locations will merge into a combined facility at 5516 Central Avenue, across from Eastland Mall.
The new building and consolidated staff will allow the Health Department to better meet the needs of customers - more space, enhanced services, and streamlined operations. In addition, the Central Avenue location is on the CATS bus line.
Services will begin at the new location on Monday, April 24. Clinic hours are:
Monday - Wednesday: 7:45 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Thursday: 7:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Friday: 7:45 a.m. - 2 p.m.
WIC currently serves more than 14,000 clients in Mecklenburg County, providing nutrition education, breast feeding support and food supplements for women who are pregnant and children up to age 5 who meet state and federal income guidelines.
Program goals of WIC are healthier mothers and children and successful birth outcomes. WIC is a federally funded program administered by the state of North Carolina and the Mecklenburg County Health Department.
