COMMIT 2 QUIT: HEALTH DEPARTMENT URGES RESIDENTS TO QUIT SMOKING

September 22, 2006

Charlotte, NC – You want to quit smoking. You know it’s bad for you, causes serious illness and affects not only you but your family. But quitting is so hard to do! Just remember, it CAN be done and the Mecklenburg County Health Department has come up with a great way to help you kick the habit and even win cash and prizes.

It’s called the Commit 2 Quit Smoking Contest and it could be your ticket to freedom from tobacco. Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up by October 2 and agree to attend a 4-session cessation class.
  • Quit smoking by October 19 and continue to refrain through November 16.
  • On November 16, everyone participating will be part of a celebration event at the Westin Hotel in Uptown Charlotte. The Westin recently became a smoke-free facility.
  • Everyone who has remained smoke-free will be eligible for cash, gift certificates and great prizes including dinners, hotel accommodations, spa packages and more.

To enter the contest you must be a resident of Mecklenburg County and over the age of 18. For registration or more information, click here or contact Willie Adams at 704-336-3317.

Commit 2 Quit was created in partnership with the Mecklenburg County Health Department, Reach 2010 and Project ASSIST.
