BIG SHOT SATURDAY RETURNS: GET YOUR KIDS IMMUNIZATIONS UP-TO-DATE
September 1, 2006

Charlotte, NC – On Saturday, September 9, nurses from the Mecklenburg County Health Department will participate in the first of four Big Shot Saturday immunization clinics for children.

For many years, Big Shot Saturday has brought together the Mecklenburg County Health Department and the Junior League of Charlotte to help get children ages 2 months to 12 years of age their required childhood immunizations.

Big Shot’s Saturday hours offer parents a convenient alternative to get their children’s shots without having to miss work, make an appointment, or wait in a crowded clinic waiting room. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools require kids to have up-to-date immunization records in order to be enrolled in school.

Immunizations are free through the Health Department but parents must bring their children’s shot records to insure the clinic nurses know exactly what shots are needed.

There will be several Big Shot Saturday opportunities in the coming weeks. The September 9 clinic will be held as part of the Junior League of Charlotte’s Children’s Multi-Cultural Festival. The event will feature free immunizations and free dental, vision and hearing screenings, as well as fun activities including a climbing wall and moon bounce. This first Big Shot event only will be held at the International House at 322 Hawthorne Lane from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Below is the schedule for the remaining Big Shot Saturday clinics which will all be held at Eastland Mall. The mall is located at 5471 Central Avenue. Park in the covered parking deck near Sears and use the entrance located near the food court and skating rink. The clinic itself will be inside the former American Eagle Outfitters store.

  • September 16: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
  • September 30: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
