Woman sneezing into a tissueThe symptoms of H1N1 flu are similar to the seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Simple steps you can take to protect your health are:

  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs easily spread this way.
  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Stay home from school or work if you are sick.

block    Be Prepared

As you plan, it is important to think about the challenges that you might face, particularly if a pandemic is severe. Think about what you would do if schools are closed for an extended period of time, if you are unable to work, or if services such as those provided by hospitals, banks, restaurants, and post offices are disrupted. It may take time to find the answers to these challenges. Below are checklists and fill-in sheets to help guide your planning and preparation.
