What Should You Do to Prepare?

To prepare, you should Get a Kit, Make a Plan, and Be Informed. Mecklenburg County Health Department has assembled checklists, fact sheets and videos from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, Homeland Security and the American Red Cross to answer questions and provide advice on steps you can take to prepare yourself and your loved ones in the event of a bioterrorist attack.

Step 1: GET A KIT

By taking time now to prepare emergency water supplies, food supplies and disaster supplies kit, you can provide for your entire family.

STEP 2: MAKE A PLAN

STEP 3: BE INFORMED

Get Info – Learn the ways you would get information during a disaster or an emergency. Communication of safety information to the public is vitally important in an emergency. This effort is coordinated with Mecklenburg County Emergency Management, law enforcement, and public officials. Radio and television stations voluntarily give broadcast time to alert the public when threats become imminent. Such valuable information aids in saving lives, reducing injuries and lessening the impact on property.

Know Your Region – Learn about the disasters that may occur in our area.

Learn How to Shelter in Place - Common questions and provide step by step guidance you can take now to prepare.

Understand Quarantine and Isolation - When quarantine and isolation may be called for, what they are, and how they work.
