Epidemiology Program


ep·i·de·mi·ol·o·gy: 
the study of the incidence, distribution, and control of disease in a population. Epidemiology is the core science of public health.

The Epidemiology Program organizes, analyzes, and distributes health indicator data to staff, other county agencies, nonprofit agencies, the media and the general public.

Located in the Billingsley Road campus, the Epidemiology Program is managed by Susan Long-Marin, DVM, MPH. Health Statisics
Available information includes general reportable communicable diseases, tuberculosis (TB), sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS, mortality, natality, community health objectives, and Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data as well as county demographics.  To see some of the available statistics, go to the Health Statistics web page.
 
Healthy Carolinians

With guidance from the Governor's Task Force on Healthy Carolinians and support from the Mecklenburg County Health Department, Mecklenburg Healthy Carolinians aims to increase the length and quality of life for all Mecklenburg County residents.
 

Assessment of community health problems is a core function of Public Health. The data generated from community health assessments are used in designing and evaluating disease prevention and health promotion intervention strategies as well as in advocating for health policy to support and promote these interventions.
