TEMPORARY FOODSERVICE EVENTS

The Mecklenburg County Health Department, under authority of Section 130A-247 of the North Carolina General Statutes, regulates the sale of food or drink at temporary special events such as a fair, carnival, circus, or public exhibition.

Inspection of Temporary Foodservice Establishment

If a vendor plans to participate in such an event they must make application to this department for a permit to operate prior to the event. You can access this temporary event permitting process information on line.

Permits for temporary foodservice establishments are not issued from the office, but can only be issued on site of the event once the vendor is completely set up. Some events and certain food items will be exempt from these regulations. If you sell only items such as dip ice cream, pop corn, candied apples, or cotton candy you will always be exempt from these regulations. To find out more please contact our office at 704-336-5100.
