Another role of Mecklenburg Healthy Carolinians is to create coalitions focused on new and emerging health issues. For health issues that are not yet being addressed in an organized and collaborative manner, we can convene a group of stakeholders at the professional and community levels and work towards addressing the issue by sharing both resources and expertise.

The following are examples of Mecklenburg Healthy Carolinians Initiatives:
Health Literacy Work Group: A group representing various health and literacy agencies and community members to address the problem of health literacy using various strategies
Safe Routes to School: A coalition of school officials, safety and transportation representatives, and parent advocates working to promote policies and activities to encourage children to walk or bike to school.
Safe Sleep: Recent data has shown a high number of preventable infant deaths in Mecklenburg County, currently we are gathering representatives from the Child Fatality team, Epidemiology team, child safety advocates, and representatives from both local hospital systems to work on crafting an appropriate message and discuss the best routes to communicate this message.
