Our Mission:  To engage, promote, encourage, and support collaboration to address identified health priorities to improve the well-being of Mecklenburg County residents.

Mecklenburg Healthy Carolinians will work in partnership with the community to be a leading resource for information on priority health issues in Mecklenburg County, a visible and credible voice for those issues, and a catalyst for change and action.
 

Our Vision for the Community…

• People are physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.
• The community has a collective "consciousness about health" and health is high on the community's list of values.
• Everybody has access to quality health care and information.
• Every child has a medical home and access to appropriate care.
• Our air and water are clean.
• Injuries are not accidents; they are prevented.
• Policies support a safe, walkable, pedestrian community with opportunities for good nutrition (e.g., grocery stores, organic gardens, affordable healthy foods) in all neighborhoods.
• A sense of community is restored; neighbors look out for neighbors and people support each other.
• Cultural and spiritual beliefs and value systems are consistent with a high value on health.
• Families are supported and the family unit is preserved (by employers, policies, etc.).
• Relationships between families and practitioners are strong.
• People trust community institutions, organizations, and professionals.
• People partnering with health care providers and employers to share responsibility for health care.
• Schools partner with parents to educate children about health and promote healthy lifestyles.
• Health language is appropriate given a family's background, culture, and the meaning in the message; people leave health practitioners understanding what they said and what it means for them.
• Disparities in health outcomes no longer exist among groups and populations in our community.
• Access to and delivery of health care is free of stigma (e.g., based on race, income, substance abuse, mental health).
• People feel free (i.e., safe) to recover, and community supports are there to help them.
• Government, organizations, institutions, and the community work together to sustain health.
