Vaccination and Confinement of Pet Animals brought into this State

 

The statute governing the importation of dogs and cats is GS130A-193.  Dogs or cats brought into this state should be securely confined and should be vaccinated against rabies within one week after entry.  The animal should remain confined for two weeks after vaccination.  Dogs or cats that have been vaccinated against rabies within the past year should have a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian.  In the absence of a health certificate, a biting animal can be quarantined for 14 days and given rabies booster vaccination until a health certificate is produce.
