Small Rodent Bites, Scratches or Exposes a Human

Rabies PEP is usually not needed for bites / non-bite exposures to of rats, mice, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chipmunks, moles, or squirrels.  If the rodent exposure was provoked and the rodent has no neurological symptoms, PEP is generally not recommended.  Rodents that display neurological symptoms or unusual behavior can be tested only with the approval of the state veterinarian.
