Vendors play a unique role in WIC and are critical to the success of the program. The cooperation of vendors allows the program to operate through the retail food marketing system. As the food deliverers, WIC vendors can assure that participants receive full benefit from the program by assisting them in identifying and purchasing allowable WIC foods.

Only vendors under contract to the WIC program can redeem WIC food instruments. To be eligible to accept WIC food instruments, food retailers, and pharmacies must be authorized by the local WIC agency and the State WIC Office. All new vendor applicants must complete the North Carolina vendor application and return it to Mecklenburg County WIC Program.
