HEALTH DEPARTMENT PROVIDES FREE SCHOOL IMMUNIZATIONS AT BIG SHOT SATURDAYS AND MORE
August 11, 2009

Kids on a school busCharlotte, N.C. – School is back in session soon, and once again, the Mecklenburg County Health Department and the Junior League of Charlotte are working together to make sure children are properly immunized for the new school year.

Big Shot Saturdays enters its 15th year of providing parents a convenient alternative for getting kids their necessary childhood immunizations. The Saturday clinics are scheduled so that moms and dads won't have to miss work, make an appointment or wait in a crowded waiting room. In addition, shots are free for school-aged children.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools requires students to have up-to-date shot records in order to be enrolled in class. All that parents need to bring is a form of identification and their child's up-to-date shot records to ensure clinic nurses know exactly which immunizations are needed.

There are four Big Shot Saturday opportunities over the coming weeks. Hours for each clinic are 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

  • Saturday, August 22, at Briarwood Elementary School, 1001 Wilann Drive
  • Saturday, September 5, at the Mecklenburg County Health Department, 249 Billingsley Road
  • Saturday, September 12, at Ranson Middle School, 5850 Statesville Road
  • Saturday, September 26, at the Mecklenburg County Health Department, 2845 Beatties Ford Road

Due to time constraints, we will only be able to serve the first 100 students at each clinic.

If Saturday is not a convenient time, the Health Department has set aside other dates for school entry shots only in our immunization clinics.

  • 249 Billingsley Road
    (August 14, August 21, September 11 and September 18)
  • 2845 Beatties Ford Road
    (August 21, September 11 and September 18)

Parents or guardians should call the Health Department appointment line at (704) 336-6500.
