Mobile Home Park Evacuated
|
|
The Charlotte Fire Department was called just before 7 a.m. to the Arrowood Mobile Home Park on John Price Road just south of I-485 for flooding. Upon arrival, firefighters found more then 100 occupants who were trapped because the only access road was covered with fast moving water from Steele Creek. Over twenty-five firefighters were called into action, including part of one of the CFD's Swiftwater Teams close by at the Charlotte Fire Academy being mobilized for deployment to eastern North Carolina. Within about ninety minutes, the evacuees, including families with children and some elderly people, were safely relocated to CATS buses called in for temporary shelter. Many of those displaced seemed prepared in advance in that family or friends were called and they were picked up and moved to better accommodations. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management officials and the American Red Cross arrived to respond to the longer-term needs of those temporarily displaced.
