Fire Station 36 Grand Opening

CHARLOTTE,  NC - The children far outnumbered the parents at the grand opening of Charlotte Fire Station 36 in the Mallard Creek Community on Saturday, December 4, 2004. Over 200 people gathered at this new 1.6 million dollar fire station that further improves the level of emergency service to this growing north part of Charlotte. Fire Chief Luther L. Fincher welcomed the many families who enjoyed a tour of the fire station along with hamburgers and hotdogs cooked up by the firefighters who are assigned to this fire station.

Engine Company 36 will respond to calls for service to the Mallard Creek Community, the University Research area, along with Interstate 85 incidents. The fire company was established in June 2003 but was based at Station 35 on Pavilion Boulevard until Station 36 could be built and opened. The crew, consisting of a captain, a driver, and two firefighters on three shifts, is happy to be in their new permanent home.

The Fire Chief invited everyone to participate in the ribbon cutting at 11:00 am.

The 11,000 square foot station currently houses Engine 36 but is large enough to house at least one other fire company, if the time comes that additional staff is needed to handle the emergency workload. The Fire Department expects to use this facility for at least 70 years.
