The Charlotte Fire Department has a variety of fire safety activities scheduled for Fire Prevention Week and the month of October for the family:
Tues., Oct. 3 Charlotte Fire Department Awards Ceremony
Open to the public at the Charlotte Fire Department Training Academy
1770 Shopton Rd., 7 p.m.
This ceremony honors Charlotte Fire Department personnel who have gone beyond the call of duty to protect the citizens of Charlotte.
Thurs., Oct. 5 Charlotte Fire Dept Recruit Class Graduation Ceremony
Open to the Public at the Charlotte Fire Department Training Academy
1770 Shopton Rd, 7 p.m.
This swearing in ceremony will highlight the 21 members of Recruit Class # 74 who successfully completed 17 weeks of fire service training.

All Month Charlotte Fire Department Educational Display
Open to the public at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center Lobby 600 East Fourth Street The annual educational display of the Charlotte Fire Department will be available for viewing. Fire and life safety information will be on display at the CMGC the entire month of October.
All Month Smoke Alarm Hotline
Call 704-336-2697, to see if you qualify
Homeowners without working smoke alarms may call and request a smoke alarm. CFD will provide smoke alarms and safety information to homeowners who cannot afford one.
All Month "Get Out Alive" Safety Smoke House
(Various times and locations)
The Safety "Smokehouse" House will be touring local elementary schools with 3rd graders throughout the month. The Safety Smokehouse is a hands on educational tool that teaches children how to safely exit a burning house. Firefighters visit elementary schools and teach them what to do in their home in case of a fire, and then the children visit the Safety Smokehouse to apply what they have learned. Simulated non toxic smoke fills the safety house, as the children get low and get out.

2 a.m. The Charlotte Fire Department reminds to replace your batteries in your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm(s) as you change your clocks!
Safety Fact-Unattended cooking continues to be the #1 cause of home fires in Charlotte- Mecklenburg. The Charlotte Fire Department wants you to take this time to discuss safety issues with your family, designing a home safety evacuation plan, conducting at least 2 home fire drills yearly, and testing Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms.
