February 21, 2007
The Charlotte Fire Department 911 Communications center received numerous calls reporting a fire at the Quail Run Condo's. Charlotte Firefighters arrived at 7992 Shady Oak Trail just after 1:15 pm today to see flames burning from the first floor to the roof and attic area. Hose lines were rapidly extended into the burning 2-story wooden structure. Firefighters searched units for anyone who may have been home at the time of the fire. Over sixty-five personal responded to the scene of this third alarm fire. It took the Charlotte Fire Dept approximately 1 hour to control the blaze and no injuries were reported. During the secondary search, over a dozen cats and dogs were rescued by members of CFD and with the assistance of CMPD Animal Control staff quickly reunited with their owners. Damage estimates by Charlotte fire officials were put at approximately $750k. Only 12 out of 30 units suffered damage and the American Red Cross responded to assist the many families displaced. The Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force completed their on scene investigation early Wednesday evening. The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.
