CFD Recognizes Its Employees on Active Military Duty

Like many public safety organizations, the Charlotte Fire Department has had several members called up to active duty in areas around the world. The City of Charlotte recognizes employees on active duty by displaying blue stars in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. Firefighter Chad Hunning of Engine 8 took the idea farther by developing a Blue Star decal to display on fire apparatus which has a member on active duty. When the employee returns, the decal will be taken off the truck and mounted on a plaque for presentation as a keepsake.

On May 18, 2006, three members of the Charlotte Fire Department were recognized and decals applied to their assigned fire apparatus, Engine 1, Ladder 1, and Engine 3. Family members of those employees were present and honored for this ceremony. Currently, the Charlotte Fire Department has eight employees who are deployed overseas. In addition to the fire apparatus already mentioned, they are from Engine 5, Engine 13, Engine 33, Engine 34, and Ladder 32.
