As part of National Fire Prevention Week, the Charlotte Fire Department celebrated mascot Blaze’s third birthday at Merry Oaks International Academy. Over 250 students were on hand to wish Blaze happy birthday and to learn cooking safety from cartoonist Dave McDonald. Several students shared the stage and danced with Blaze to one of the songs from his Blaze into Fire Safety CD, “Matches and Lighters Are Not Toys.”

Chief Fire Investigator David Lowery, master of ceremonies, said, “Blaze’s third birthday party was a smash! It was especially great having all those smart boys and girls from Merry Oakes to help us celebrate and learn at the same time!” Also present to assist were Fire Engine 15 and the Fire and Life Safety Education staff. Blaze returned the favor by sharing his birthday cake and punch with the students and school staff.
