1 Person Dies in Motel Fire, Cause Ruled Accidental
Charlotte, N.C. - Investigators with Charlotte’s Fire Investigation Task Force have determined the cause of Thursday's early morning fire at the Real Value Inn to have originated from a discarded smoking material.  The fire which resulted in the death of 49-year old Constance Frances Roddey, originated within the motel room that she occupied. Investigators determined that the fire started near the bed involving the ignition of ordinary combustibles.  No other injuries were reported and up to eight (8) occupants of this Motel located at 1240 Lucky Penny Street were able to be relocated to vacant rooms. This is Charlotte’s first fire fatally for the year 2008.
