Fire Officials Urge Safety When Using Total Release Foggers

September 14, 2006. Total release foggers, also known as "bug bombs" are pesticide products containing aerosol propellants that release their contents at once to fumigate an area. These products are often used around the homes and businesses to kill cockroaches, fleas, ants and other pests. Because of the aerosol propellants in these foggers they are typically flammable. Improper use may cause a fire or explosion. Late Wednesday night, the CFD responded to an explosion caused by improper use of these "Bug Bombs" This explosion caused building damage and sent one worker to the hospital with burns. The Charlotte Fire Department strongly urges anyone using insect foggers or bug bombs to follow manufactures guidelines to reduce your risk of fire or explosion.
