FIRE SAFETY TIPS; BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS.

  • Sudden electrical surges from power outages could cause a fire in equipment while you are away.

  • Check to make sure that all stoves and electrical appliances (timer coffee pots etc.) have been turned off or disconnected.

  • Unplug all television sets and radios or other non-essential appliances.

  •  Unplug Christmas tree decorations and lights.

  • Do not use timers for decorations if you are not going to be home.

  • Turn down the heat and keep tree away from heater vents, as this could dry out your Christmas tree and present a fire hazard.

  • Have your security, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monitored by a outside security company who will call 911 if they activate.

  • Leave a key and a telephone number with your neighbor, so in case of an emergency they can check on things or contact you.

  • When you return from vacation, check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The batteries could run down or other components could fail while you are away.  This ensures that you will be protected on your return.

  • Always walk through your house one last time before leaving to inspect for potential fire and life safety hazards.
